Sassy pants is back!
Katja had a really good night. She’s off her narcotics now and down to IV Tylenol/Toradol. She is finally starting to drink and will hopefully eat some breakfast. Her poor digestive system is finally starting to wake up and cause some minor discomfort but she is still much better today. Chest tubes are out, most of her IVs as well. They removed her pacing wires and she’s only requiring a small amount of oxygen while sleeping.
We’ve needed a few days to digest some really great news and we are ready to share it.
Katja received her adult sized conduit 🤗🤗🤗
So what does that mean? It means most likely she won’t need her pulmonary conduit replaced ever again. Fixing the valve or any minor issues can be fixed via a cath procedure.
If her Ozaki (aortic valve) holds up well now, she won’t need much intervention at all. Dr Baird was able to reduce her aortic root size, replace the failed Ozaki with another that is all her own tissue (less likely to calcify) and give her a 23mm adult pulmonary conduit.
If everything holds up well, she’s been given many years before her next surgery.
Conservative estimate is 10+ years if all holds up well! 🥳👏👏👏👏🎉🤗
